HOME HOLISTIC WORKOUT: VOL 2
I’ve heard a lot of people talking about ways to avoid Coronavirus lately and although I’m not really qualified enough to say whether or not any of them are true I still feel that there are some great tips going around that I’m always down to share.
One of the things that I’ve heard, and I’ve heard it quite a few times now, is that keeping your throat moist is important and we should be sipping fluids every 20 minutes or so. Again, I’m not an expert in viruses, not even close, but regardless of whether or not this does protect you, hydration is and always has been a really important consideration when optimizing your health. So todays tips are on water and hydration.
1. Drink Quality Water
Quality water is water that is clean and contains minerals. Without minerals (or salts), water is not absorbed well and ends up going straight through you. Quality water can be found in most supermarkets and service stations and generally comes under the name “spring water”. Spring water generally comes from the ground and so it contains all different kinds of minerals, collected from the earth on its way to wherever it’s being bottled.
Poor quality water can take many forms. Tap water can be harmful because of the chemicals it’s treated with. Filtered water can cause issues because it takes everything out of it (including minerals) so, if you drink enough of it, it can actually dehydrate you. However, you can revitalize your dead water with a pinch of salt or a few drops of Trace minerals which instantly increases the absorbability.
2. Drink Enough Water
Even before I tell you how much water you need to drink, my best piece of advice is to get a quality water bottle or designated water glass, find out how much that thing holds and then keep a mental count of how many you drink per day. An average adult needs to drink 3L (12 cups) of water a day, of which 1L (4 cups) usually comes from our food. If you like math and want to get specific, you can estimate your fluid needs by bodyweight. For every kilogram of bodyweight, ingest 30-40ml of fluid per day. Obviously you should drink more if you are sick or exercising.
3. Form a Habit of Drinking a Glass of Water Immediately When You Wake Up in the Morning
We lose water through the act of breathing and we lose even more if we are breathing through our mouth all night. Many people start the day in a state of mild hydration and so getting a head start will take you far. Most people who implement this simple change find that it creates a chain reaction helping them build the habit of drinking consistently throughout the day, especially if they have a water bottle on hand. I’m a big fan of morning routines and so this one’s been big for me.
